Relationship & Sex Therapist
My name is Rafeena. I have lived in London for over 30 years and have been practising as a Counsellor since 2000.
I have worked in various settings including charities, hospitals, schools, housing associations and private practice, providing a confidential counselling service for both young people and adults.
My experience has ranged from supporting clients on a one to one basis and facilitating groups.
The way I work
My approach to working is an integrative one. Every person is unique and through my experience of working with clients, I have learnt that different ways of working are needed for each client.
How counselling works
Therapy is a collaborative and active dialogue between two people. As your counsellor, I will not tell you what to do nor will I sit back and remain a passive participant.
My job is to support you, stand with you, challenge you, and help you overcome whatever issues you face.
My work focuses on feelings, both from your past and present. Many of us feel a little anxious or depressed at times. Some of us have innumerable fears, obsessive-compulsive problems, or difficulty making enduring, loving connections.
It is possible to learn how to deal with these feelings, and become a more engaging person.
In this chaotic world, we are faced with many experiences that leave us feeling stuck, hurt, and overwhelmed. It can be lonely, isolating, and exhausting. Sometimes we need help finding our way through the storm. My intention is to help you navigate a path and empower you to find wholeness within yourself.
Therapy is a place where you can explore your inner world and consider taking risks in your outer one.
Counselling can be a deeply transforming experience where you feel understood, improve your mood and feel more comfortable within yourself.
Experience / Areas of interest
I have extensive experience assisting clients to work through a range of life issues, including relationships, interpersonal difficulties, anxiety, depression, self harm, hopelessness, bereavement, internal conflicts such as self esteem and feelings of self worth.
I have a specific background specialising in psychosexual / couple counselling and substance use.
Together, we will explore the experiences and beliefs that shape who you are and build on the strengths you already possess.
Counselling often helps you to find greater awareness about your possibilities and to come to terms with anything that you cannot change.
